Originally, the site comprised of two distinct single storey industrial buildings connected to a two storey building of domestic scale that fronts the street. Previously a small production facility for optical lenses, the present owner and artist sought to convert the ensemble of existing structures to a programme of live and work. The lightweight industrial buildings have been adapted into an artists studio and showroom, whilst the domestic building has been converted to 3 bedroom home.

Additional planning approval allowed for a mezzanine floor to be situated above the showroom to form an archive and office space. This required significant remodelling of the rear workshop to install a Vierendeel steel truss that dictated the irregular geometries of the space. A discreet walkway suspended above the studio connects and provides a direct link between the office and the house.
